How to enable Power-Ups on Trello boards
Quick Answer
To enable power-ups on a Trello board, open your board, click the Show menu button, select Power-Ups, and choose from available integrations. You can add up to 10 power-ups per board depending on your plan.
Prerequisites
- Active Trello account
- Access to the board where you want to enable power-ups
- Board admin or owner permissions
- Understanding of your Trello plan limitations
1
Open your Trello board
Navigate to the Trello board where you want to enable power-ups. Make sure you have admin or owner permissions for this board, as only these roles can manage power-ups.
Tip
If you don't see power-up options later, check your board permissions in the board settings.
2
Access the board menu
Look for the Show menu button on the right side of your board. It appears as three horizontal dots or lines. Click this button to open the board's sidebar menu.
3
Navigate to Power-Ups section
In the board menu sidebar, scroll down and click on Power-Ups. This will open the Power-Ups directory where you can browse and manage all available integrations for your board.
Tip
The Power-Ups section may show a number indicating how many power-ups are currently enabled on your board.
4
Browse available power-ups
You'll see a list of available power-ups organized by categories like Made by Trello, Developer Tools, Communication, and others. Use the search bar at the top to find specific power-ups, or browse through categories to discover new ones.
Tip
Popular power-ups include Calendar, Butler automation, Google Drive, and Slack integrations.
5
Select and enable a power-up
Click on the power-up you want to enable. This will open a detailed view showing the power-up's features and permissions. Click the Enable or Add button to activate it on your board.
Tip
Read the permissions carefully before enabling, as some power-ups require access to your board data.
6
Configure power-up settings
After enabling, many power-ups will prompt you to configure settings or authenticate with external services. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup. Some power-ups may require you to connect your accounts (like Google, Slack, or GitHub).
Tip
You can always modify power-up settings later by returning to the Power-Ups menu and clicking on the enabled power-up.
7
Verify power-up activation
Return to your board view to confirm the power-up is working. Look for new buttons, menu options, or features that the power-up provides. Many power-ups add buttons to cards or new options in the board menu.
Tip
Some power-ups may take a few minutes to fully activate and display their features.
8
Manage enabled power-ups
To manage your power-ups, return to Show menu > Power-Ups. Here you can see all enabled power-ups, disable them by clicking the gear icon next to each one, or add additional power-ups up to your plan's limit.
Tip
Free Trello accounts can enable up to 1 power-up per board, while paid plans allow up to 10 power-ups per board.
Troubleshooting
Power-Ups option is missing from the board menu
Ensure you have admin or owner permissions on the board. Only board administrators can manage power-ups. Contact the board owner to grant you the necessary permissions.
Cannot enable more power-ups due to plan limitations
Free Trello accounts are limited to 1 power-up per board. Upgrade to Trello Standard or higher to enable up to 10 power-ups per board, or disable existing power-ups to make room for new ones.
Power-up features not appearing after enabling
Try refreshing your browser or the Trello app. Some power-ups require additional authentication or configuration steps. Return to Power-Ups menu and click on the enabled power-up to complete setup.
Power-up authentication or connection errors
Clear your browser cache and cookies, then try reconnecting the power-up. Ensure you're using the correct credentials for the external service. Some power-ups may require admin permissions on the connected service as well.
