How to upload and organize lessons on Teachable

Quick Answer

Upload lessons to Teachable by navigating to your course curriculum, adding sections and lessons, then uploading content files directly through the lesson editor. Organize your content using drag-and-drop functionality to arrange sections and lessons in logical order.

Prerequisites

  1. Active Teachable account
  2. Course content ready (videos, PDFs, etc.)
  3. Course already created in your dashboard
  4. Basic understanding of course structure
1

Access Your Course Curriculum

Log into your Teachable dashboard and click on Courses in the left sidebar. Find your course and click View/Edit next to it. Then click on the Curriculum tab to access the course structure where you'll add your lessons.
Tip
Make sure your course is in draft mode before making major curriculum changes
2

Create Course Sections

Click + New Section to create logical groupings for your lessons. Enter a section title like 'Introduction' or 'Module 1' and click Save Section. Repeat this process to create all the sections you need for your course structure.
Tip
Plan your sections in advance - aim for 3-7 lessons per section for optimal student engagement
3

Add Lessons to Sections

Within each section, click + New Lecture to add a lesson. Enter your lesson title in the text field and click Save Lecture. The lesson will appear in your curriculum and you can click on it to begin adding content.
4

Upload Video Content

Click on a lesson to open the lesson editor. In the Video section, you can either upload a video file by clicking Upload Video or paste a video URL from YouTube, Vimeo, or Wistia. For uploads, drag your video file into the upload area or click Choose File to browse your computer.
Tip
Videos under 5GB upload faster - consider compressing large files before uploading
5

Add Text Content and Resources

Scroll down to the Text & Media section to add written content using the rich text editor. Use the Downloads section to upload PDFs, worksheets, or other files students can download. Click Add Download and select your file.
Tip
Keep downloadable files under 100MB for better user experience
6

Set Lesson Properties

In the lesson editor, configure settings like Preview Lesson (to make it free), Completion Trigger (when lesson is marked complete), and add a Lesson Description. Click Save Lesson when finished with each lesson.
Tip
Make your first lesson a preview to give potential students a taste of your content
7

Organize and Reorder Content

Back in the Curriculum view, drag and drop sections and lessons to reorder them. Click the (hamburger) icon next to any item and drag it to its new position. The changes save automatically as you move items around.
Tip
Test your course flow by previewing it from a student's perspective before publishing
8

Publish Your Course Content

Once all lessons are uploaded and organized, click Publish at the top of your course editor. Review your curriculum one final time, then confirm publishing. Your organized lessons will now be available to students who enroll in your course.

Troubleshooting

Video upload fails or gets stuck
Check your internet connection and try uploading smaller file sizes. Use MP4 format for best compatibility and ensure your video is under 5GB.
Lessons appear in wrong order
Go to the Curriculum tab and use the drag-and-drop feature by clicking the icon next to each lesson. Refresh the page to confirm changes saved properly.
Students can't download lesson resources
Verify file formats are supported (PDF, DOC, ZIP, etc.) and files are under 100MB. Re-upload the file and ensure the Downloads section is properly saved in the lesson.
Course sections not displaying correctly
Make sure each section has at least one lesson and check that section titles are saved properly. Try refreshing your browser and clearing cache if sections appear missing.
