How to save reusable sections on Squarespace
Quick Answer
Saving reusable sections on Squarespace allows you to create templates from existing page sections for use across multiple pages. Access the section settings, save it to your library, and then add it to other pages when needed.
Prerequisites
- Active Squarespace website
- Website editor access
- Basic understanding of sections and blocks
- Squarespace 7.1 or newer template
1
Navigate to the section you want to save
Open your Squarespace website editor and navigate to the page containing the section you want to make reusable. Hover over the section until you see the Edit Section pencil icon appear.
Tip
Choose sections that you'll frequently reuse, such as contact forms, testimonial blocks, or call-to-action sections.
2
Access section settings
Click the Edit Section icon (pencil) to enter section editing mode. Look for the Section Settings gear icon in the top toolbar and click it to open the section options menu.
3
Save section to library
In the Section Settings panel, scroll down and click Save to Library. A dialog box will appear asking you to name your saved section. Enter a descriptive name that will help you identify the section later, such as
Contact Form - Homepage Style.Tip
Use clear, descriptive names that indicate the section's purpose and design style for easy identification.
4
Confirm and save
Click Save to add the section to your reusable sections library. You'll see a confirmation message that the section has been saved. Click Done to exit the section settings.
5
Access saved sections on other pages
Navigate to any page where you want to add the saved section. Click the + icon between sections or at the bottom of the page to add a new section. In the section library, click the Saved tab to view your custom saved sections.
Tip
You can access saved sections from any page on your website, making them truly reusable across your entire site.
6
Add the saved section to your page
Browse through your saved sections and click on the one you want to use. The section will be added to your page with all the original content, styling, and settings intact. You can then customize the content as needed while keeping the design structure.
Tip
After adding a saved section, you can modify its content without affecting the original saved version or other instances of the section.
7
Manage your saved sections library
To organize your saved sections, go to Design > Custom CSS and then click Manage Custom Files. Alternatively, access the section library from any page editor and use the Saved tab to delete or rename sections by hovering over them and clicking the options menu.
Tip
Regularly clean up your saved sections library by removing outdated designs to keep it organized and efficient.
Troubleshooting
Save to Library option is missing
Ensure you're using Squarespace 7.1 and have the latest editor version. The feature may not be available on older templates. Try refreshing your browser or switching to a supported template.
Saved section appears but content is missing
This can happen if the section contained dynamic content or third-party integrations. Check that all blocks within the section are supported for saving, and re-create any missing elements manually.
Cannot find saved sections in library
Verify you're looking in the Saved tab, not the Layouts tab in the section library. Saved sections are site-specific, so ensure you're on the correct website if you manage multiple Squarespace sites.
Saved section styling looks different on new page
Some styling may be affected by page-specific CSS or template variations. Check your site styles in Design > Site Styles and ensure consistent styling across pages, or add custom CSS if needed.
