How to embed social media blocks on Squarespace
Quick Answer
Embed social media content on Squarespace by adding a Social Link block from the block menu and pasting your social media URL. The platform automatically generates the embedded content from supported social networks like Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube.
Prerequisites
- Active Squarespace website
- Admin access to your Squarespace site
- Social media account URL or post link
- Basic familiarity with Squarespace editor
1
Open the Squarespace Editor
Log into your Squarespace account and navigate to your website dashboard. Click Edit to open the visual editor for your site.
Tip
Make sure you're editing the correct page where you want to add the social media content.
2
Navigate to Your Target Page
In the editor, click on Pages in the left sidebar and select the page where you want to embed social media content. If adding to a blog post, navigate to Blog and select your specific post.
3
Add a Content Block
Click the + (plus) icon where you want to insert the social media content. This will open the block menu with various content options.
Tip
You can add blocks between existing content sections or at the end of your page.
4
Select Social Link Block
From the block menu, scroll down to find and click on Social Link. This block type is specifically designed for embedding social media content from various platforms.
Tip
Don't confuse this with Social Icons, which only displays clickable social media icons.
5
Paste Your Social Media URL
In the URL field that appears, paste the complete URL of your social media post or profile. Supported platforms include:
- Instagram posts and profiles
- Twitter/X tweets
- Facebook posts and pages
- YouTube videos
- TikTok videos
- Pinterest pins
Tip
Make sure to copy the full URL directly from the social media platform's address bar or share button.
6
Customize Display Options
Once the content loads, click on the embedded block to access styling options. You can adjust:
- Block alignment (left, center, right)
- Caption text below the embed
- Spacing around the block
Tip
Preview your changes on different devices using the device preview icons in the top toolbar.
7
Save and Publish Changes
After customizing your social media embed, click Save in the top left corner of the editor. Then click Done to exit the editor and publish your changes to the live site.
Tip
Always preview your page before publishing to ensure the embedded content displays correctly.
Troubleshooting
Social media content not displaying or showing error message
Verify the URL is correct and the post is publicly visible. Private or deleted posts cannot be embedded. Try copying the URL again from the original platform.
Embedded content appears too large or small on mobile devices
Check the Mobile preview in the editor and adjust the block width settings. Most social embeds are responsive by default, but custom spacing may need adjustment.
Block menu doesn't show Social Link option
Ensure you're using a current Squarespace template version. Some older templates may require updating. Try refreshing the editor or switching to a different page and back.
Instagram or Facebook content showing 'This content isn't available right now'
This usually indicates privacy restrictions on the original post. Ensure the post is public and not from a private account. Business accounts typically have better embedding compatibility.
