How to add site contributors on Squarespace

Quick Answer

Adding site contributors on Squarespace allows team members to help manage your website content. Navigate to Settings > Permissions, click Invite Contributors, enter their email addresses, and assign appropriate permission levels.

Prerequisites

  1. Active Squarespace website
  2. Admin access to your site
  3. Contributors' email addresses
  4. Business plan or higher (required for contributor access)
1

Access your Squarespace admin panel

Log into your Squarespace account and select the website where you want to add contributors. Click on the Settings icon in the left sidebar (gear icon).
Tip
Make sure you're logged in as the site owner or an administrator to access permission settings.
2

Navigate to Permissions settings

In the Settings menu, scroll down and click on Permissions. This section controls who can access and edit your website content.
Tip
If you don't see Permissions in your settings, you may need to upgrade to a Business plan or higher.
3

Click Invite Contributors

On the Permissions page, locate the Contributors section and click the Invite Contributors button. This will open a new dialog box for adding team members.
4

Enter contributor email addresses

In the invitation dialog, enter the email addresses of the people you want to invite. You can add multiple email addresses by separating them with commas or pressing Enter after each address.
Tip
Double-check email addresses for accuracy to ensure invitations reach the right people.
5

Set permission levels

For each contributor, select their permission level from the dropdown menu:
  • Administrator - Full access to site settings and content
  • Content Editor - Can edit pages, blog posts, and products
  • Trusted Commenter - Can moderate comments
  • Billing - Access to billing and subscription settings only
Tip
Start with lower permission levels and upgrade access as needed for security.
6

Add a personal message (optional)

In the Message field, you can include a personalized note that will be sent with the invitation email. This helps explain why you're inviting them and what their role will be.
Tip
Include clear instructions about their responsibilities and any specific areas they should focus on.
7

Send the invitations

Review all the information and click Send Invitations. The invited contributors will receive an email with instructions to accept the invitation and access your site.
Tip
Contributors must accept the invitation within 30 days, or you'll need to resend it.
8

Manage existing contributors

Return to Settings > Permissions to view all contributors. You can change permission levels, resend invitations, or remove contributors by clicking the three dots menu next to each contributor's name.
Tip
Regularly review contributor access and remove users who no longer need access to maintain security.

Troubleshooting

Permissions option not visible in Settings
The Permissions feature is only available on Business plans and higher. Upgrade your subscription to access contributor management features.
Contributors not receiving invitation emails
Check that email addresses are correct and ask contributors to check their spam/junk folders. You can resend invitations from the Permissions page.
Contributor can't access certain features
Review their permission level in Settings > Permissions. You may need to upgrade them to Administrator or Content Editor for broader access.
Unable to remove a contributor
Click the three dots menu next to the contributor's name and select Remove. If the option is grayed out, ensure you have admin privileges on the site.
