How to customize background settings on Screen Studio

Open your Screen Studio project
Launch Screen Studio and open the project you want to edit. Make sure your screen recording is loaded in the timeline and ready for editing.

Create a new project if you haven't recorded anything yet by clicking the record button first

Access the Background settings
In the right sidebar, locate and click on the Background tab. If you don't see the sidebar, press

Choose your background type
Select from the available background options:
- None - Transparent background
- Color - Solid color background
- Gradient - Two-color gradient
- Image - Custom background image

Start with a solid color if you're unsure which option works best for your content

Customize color backgrounds
If you selected Color, click on the color picker to choose your desired background color. Use the color wheel or enter a specific hex code in the input field. For Gradient, select two colors and adjust the direction using the gradient controls.

Choose colors that contrast well with your screen content for better visibility

Add custom background images
For Image backgrounds, click Choose Image and select a file from your computer. Supported formats include PNG, JPG, and SVG. Adjust the Scale and Position settings to fit your image properly.

Use high-resolution images (at least 1920x1080) for the best quality results

Adjust background properties
Fine-tune your background using these controls:
- Opacity - Make background more or less transparent
- Blur - Add blur effect to background images
- Brightness - Adjust background brightness

Lower opacity and add slight blur to prevent background from distracting from your main content

Preview and apply changes
Use the preview window to see how your background looks with your screen recording. Press the Space bar to play/pause and review the changes. Click Apply or the changes will be automatically saved.

Scrub through different parts of your timeline to ensure the background works well throughout your entire recording

Export with custom background
When you're satisfied with your background, click Export in the top-right corner. Choose your desired export settings and format. Your final video will include the customized background.

Export a short test clip first to verify the background appears correctly before exporting the full video
Troubleshooting
Background settings panel is not visible
Press
Cmd + Shift + I to open the inspector panel, or go to View > Show Inspector in the menu bar.Custom background image appears pixelated or blurry
Use a higher resolution image (minimum 1920x1080) and ensure the image format is PNG or JPG. Avoid upscaling small images.
Background changes don't appear in preview
Make sure you have the correct layer selected in the timeline. Try refreshing the preview by pressing
Cmd + R or restart Screen Studio.Exported video shows original background instead of custom one
Verify that background changes were applied before exporting. Check the Background tab is still active and re-apply settings if necessary before exporting again.
