How to turn the Loom camera bubble on or off
Quick Answer
You can toggle the camera bubble on or off in Loom by clicking the camera icon in the recording controls during recording, or by accessing camera settings in your recording preferences. The bubble can be hidden or repositioned at any time during screen recording.
Prerequisites
- Active Loom account
- Loom desktop app or browser extension installed
- Camera permissions enabled
- Recording in progress or existing Loom video
1
Start a new Loom recording
Open the Loom desktop app or click the Loom browser extension icon. Select Start Recording and choose your recording type (screen only, camera only, or screen + camera).
Tip
Make sure your camera is working properly before starting the recording
2
Access recording controls
Once recording begins, you'll see the Loom recording controls toolbar appear on your screen. Look for the Camera icon in the control panel.
3
Toggle camera bubble off
Click the Camera icon in the recording controls to turn off the camera bubble. The icon will appear grayed out when the camera bubble is disabled.
Tip
You can do this at any point during your recording without stopping
4
Turn camera bubble back on
To re-enable the camera bubble, click the Camera icon again. The bubble will reappear on your screen and the icon will be highlighted.
Tip
The camera bubble will return to its last position when re-enabled
5
Reposition camera bubble
While the camera bubble is active, you can drag it to any corner or edge of your screen. Click and hold the bubble, then move it to your preferred location.
Tip
Position the bubble where it won't obstruct important content you're recording
6
Adjust camera bubble settings
Right-click on the camera bubble to access additional options like Hide bubble, Change size, or Camera settings for more advanced controls.
Tip
Some options may vary depending on your Loom subscription plan
7
Set default camera preferences
Go to Loom settings by clicking your profile picture > Settings > Recording. Here you can set default camera bubble preferences for future recordings.
Tip
Setting defaults saves time for consistent recording setups
Troubleshooting
Camera bubble won't turn off during recording
Try refreshing the page or restarting the Loom app. Ensure you're clicking directly on the Camera icon in the recording controls.
Camera icon is missing from recording controls
Check that you selected Screen + Camera when starting your recording. Camera-only recordings don't have a bubble toggle option.
Camera bubble appears black or frozen
Check your camera permissions in browser settings or system preferences. Try switching to a different camera in Loom Settings > Camera.
Camera bubble position resets after toggling
This is normal behavior. Reposition the bubble after turning it back on, or set a default position in your Loom recording preferences.
