How to track viewer engagement metrics on Loom
Quick Answer
Track viewer engagement on Loom by accessing your video's analytics dashboard through the My Videos section. View key metrics like watch time, completion rates, viewer locations, and engagement heatmaps to understand how your audience interacts with your content.
Prerequisites
- Active Loom account
- Published Loom videos
- Business or Pro Loom subscription for advanced analytics
- Basic understanding of video analytics
1
Access your Loom dashboard
Navigate to loom.com and sign in to your account. Click on My Videos in the left sidebar to see all your recorded videos. This will display your video library where you can access analytics for each recording.
Tip
Bookmark your My Videos page for quick access to analytics
2
Select a video to analyze
From your video library, find the video you want to track engagement for. Click on the video thumbnail or title to open the video details page. You'll see basic information about the video including title, creation date, and sharing settings.
3
Open the analytics dashboard
On the video details page, look for the Analytics tab or View Analytics button. Click this to access the comprehensive engagement metrics dashboard. If you don't see this option, ensure you have a Business or Pro subscription as basic accounts have limited analytics.
Tip
Analytics data may take a few hours to populate for newly published videos
4
Review viewer statistics
In the analytics dashboard, examine the Viewer Statistics section which shows:
- Total views and unique viewers
- Average watch time and completion rate
- Peak concurrent viewers
- Geographic distribution of viewers
Tip
Focus on completion rate as it's the strongest indicator of engagement quality
5
Analyze the engagement heatmap
Scroll down to find the Engagement Heatmap or Timeline Analytics. This visual representation shows when viewers are most engaged, where they skip content, and which parts they rewatch. Red areas indicate high engagement, while blue areas show viewer drop-off points.
Tip
Use heatmap data to identify which content formats work best for future videos
6
Check viewer interaction data
Look for the Interactions section to see:
- Comments and reactions on your video
- Share statistics and referral sources
- Download requests (if enabled)
- Transcript views and searches
7
Export analytics data
To save or share your metrics, click the Export or Download Report button usually located at the top right of the analytics dashboard. Choose your preferred format (CSV or PDF) and select the date range for the data you want to export.
Tip
Export data regularly to track trends over time and create custom reports
8
Set up engagement alerts
Navigate to Settings > Notifications in your Loom account. Enable Analytics Notifications to receive email updates when your videos reach certain engagement milestones or when there are significant changes in viewer behavior patterns.
Tip
Set realistic milestone alerts to stay motivated without notification fatigue
Troubleshooting
Analytics tab not visible on video page
Upgrade to a Business or Pro subscription as detailed analytics are not available on free accounts. Basic view counts are still visible for all users.
No engagement data showing despite video views
Analytics data can take 2-4 hours to populate. If data is still missing after 24 hours, check that your video privacy settings allow for analytics tracking in Video Settings.
Heatmap appears empty or incomplete
Heatmap data requires a minimum of 10 views to generate meaningful insights. Ensure your video has sufficient views and that viewers are watching for more than a few seconds.
Export function not working or generating empty reports
Clear your browser cache and try again. If the issue persists, try exporting a smaller date range or contact Loom support. Ensure popup blockers aren't preventing the download.
