How to tag subscribers manually on ConvertKit

Open the tagging menu
With subscribers selected, click the Tag button that appears in the action bar above the subscriber list. This will open a dropdown menu with tagging options including Add Tags and Remove Tags.

Add new tags to subscribers
Click Add Tags from the dropdown menu. In the tag input field that appears:
- Start typing to search existing tags
- Select from the suggested tags that appear
- Type a new tag name and press Enter to create it
- Add multiple tags by repeating this process

Apply the tags
After selecting or creating your desired tags, click the Add Tags button to apply them to the selected subscribers. ConvertKit will display a confirmation message showing how many subscribers were tagged successfully.

The tagging process may take a few moments for large subscriber selections

Verify tag application
To confirm tags were applied correctly:
- Click on individual subscriber profiles to view their assigned tags
- Use the Tags filter in the subscriber list to view subscribers with specific tags
- Check the Tags section in your dashboard to see updated subscriber counts

Remove tags if needed
To remove tags from subscribers, select the subscribers and click Tag > Remove Tags. Choose the tags you want to remove from the dropdown list and click Remove Tags to confirm the action.

Removing tags doesn't delete the subscribers, only removes the tag association
Troubleshooting
Tags not appearing after application
Refresh your browser page and check the subscriber profiles again. Tag updates may take 1-2 minutes to reflect across all ConvertKit interfaces.
Cannot select multiple subscribers
Ensure you're using Ctrl+Click (Windows) or Cmd+Click (Mac) for multiple selection. Clear your browser cache if the selection feature isn't working properly.
Tag button is grayed out or missing
Verify you have selected at least one subscriber and that your ConvertKit plan includes tagging features. Check your user permissions if you're not the account owner.
New tags not saving or creating
Ensure tag names don't contain special characters or exceed 50 characters. Try creating the tag separately in the Tags section before applying it to subscribers.
