How to edit video timelines on Canva

Open Video Editor and Access Timeline

Navigate the Timeline Interface

Add Transitions and Effects
Click between two clips or at the beginning/end of a clip to add transitions. Select Transitions from the left sidebar and choose from options like fade, slide, or zoom. Keep transitions subtle and consistent throughout your video for a professional look - typically 0.5-1 second duration works best.

Sync Audio and Adjust Volume
If your video has audio, it will appear as a waveform below the video track. Click on the audio track to select it, then adjust volume using the volume slider in the properties panel. To sync audio with video, drag the audio track to align with specific visual moments. You can also detach audio by right-clicking the video and selecting Detach audio.

Use the waveform visualization to identify peaks and quiet moments, helping you time cuts and transitions with the audio rhythm.

Preview and Export Your Video
Use the Play button or press spacebar to preview your edited video. The timeline will show your playhead position in real-time. When satisfied with your edits, click Share in the top-right corner, then select Download. Choose MP4 video format and select your preferred quality settings before clicking Download.

Troubleshooting
Timeline is not visible or disappeared
Click the Timeline button in the bottom toolbar or try refreshing your browser. If using mobile, switch to desktop as mobile timeline features are limited.
Cannot trim or split video clips
Ensure you're clicking directly on the video clip in the timeline, not empty space. Some stock videos may have trimming restrictions - try right-clicking and selecting Replace to upload your own content.
Audio and video are out of sync
Right-click the video element and select Detach audio, then manually drag the audio track to align with the video. Use the waveform peaks as visual guides for synchronization.
Changes not saving or timeline keeps resetting
Ensure you have a stable internet connection and your browser isn't blocking Canva scripts. Try clearing your browser cache or switching to an incognito window. Save frequently using Ctrl+S.
